Funding from CLIR-Mellon gave me the flexibility to explore archives and collections outside my geographic base, such as the Archivo Diocesano de Salamanca. Salamanca was one of my favorite excursions out from the Basque Country. The medieval city is a designated UNESCO world heritage site, and home to the oldest university in Spain, founded in 1134 and chartered in 1218.
